ABOUT COMIIC


We are pleased to announce that the 6th 
Commercialization, Innovation and i-IDeA Competition (ComiiC 2023) will be held on 9th to 11th May 2023.  

ComiiC is a platform for students to deliver their innovative ideas which may have the potential to be commercialized and contribute to the development of the nation. The main aim of the competition is to train students' confidence in conveying their research and innovative ideas to both professional and general audience.

The ComiiC pitch competition is divided into two channels:

RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. PRESENTATION METHODS
    Live (Online Pitch) and Face-to-Face (Stage Pitch). 
  2. LANGUAGE
    Pitcher/pitchers can use Malay or English language during the pitch.
  3. PITCHER
    Minimum number of pitcher is 1, maximum number of pitcher is 3.
  4. TIME

    Total time Pitching and Q&A sessions is 10 minutes.

    • Pitching Session
    1. The time allocated for each pitcher is 7 minutes ONLY.
    2. First bell (one time) – notification at the minutes of 5.
    3. Second bell (2 times) – notification end of pitching which is at the minutes of 7.

     

    • Q & A session
    1. The time allocated for Q&A session from the judges is 3 minutes ONLY.
    2. First bell (one time) – notification at the minutes of 2.
    3. Second bell (2 times) – notification end of Q&A session which is at the minutes of 3

  5. PRESENTATION AIDS
    All presenters are NOT allowed to bring any kind of presentation aids (i.e.
    notes/paper/tablet/slides/video/product). If so, marks will be deducted.
THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES ARE FINAL AND NO DISPUTES OR APPEALS WILL BE ENTERTAINED

PARTICIPANT GUIDELINES

All entries must comply with the following guidelines:

  1. Payment fee is not negotiable.
  2. Once the registration has been accepted, the participant is obliged to pay the total amount of fee.
  3. The group who WITHDRAWS their participation after the last registration date must pay the whole amount of the invoiced fee.
  4. A special 10 % discount off the normal fee for contingent registration with a minimum of
    • Online Pitch
      • 10 participations in Event G
      • 15 participations in Event H
      • 20 participations in Event I
    • Stage Pitch
      • 5 participations (applicable for Event G, H & I)
  5. The following exhibits are not accepted for this competition:
    • A pitch which is a duplication of others.
    • A pitch which may provoke public’s sensitivity or may contain values that are in contrary to moral and public health and welfare.
    • A pitch which may be a subject matter of any Intellectual Property (IP) disputes or contentions.
  6. The entry form (together with abstract) should be submitted to i-IDeA2023 organizers by 31st January 2023. (Any extension of registration date will be updated in this website).
  7. Once the entry form has been accepted and the registration is confirmed by the committee, the group is obliged to pay the total amount of fees within the allocated timeframe. Please refer to i-IDeA2023 website for further details on payment method.
  8. All details or files submitted in the entry form (including abstract) are accepted as they are. The i-IDeA2023 organizers will not be responsible for any errors in the translation or wording of descriptions published in the programme book or in the e-proceedings (if any).
  9. The organizers will also not be responsible for any loss, theft, damage (due to fire or other causes) or personal injury suffered during or after the exhibition or in transit.
  10. The participants should further agree to release and acquit the organizers for all actions, causes of actions, claims or damages of whatever kind, including the negligence of the organizers arising out of participation in this program.
  11. The decisions of the panel of judges for the competition are final. The panel of judges or the members or the organizers are not liable in respect of any matters which arise from or connected to the results or conduct in organizing the competition.

    Usefulness in solving the problem: Is the idea substantial and meaningful in life? Does it solve
    any problem?
  3. Planning Structure & Creativity
    • Flow of ideas: Easy to understand, especially to any layman. Ability to demonstrate
      the idea clearly.
    • Energetic/enthusiastic in delivering the presentation
  4. Knowledge impact
    Does the inventor/innovator/designer know what he/she is doing: Can he/she share his/her
    knowledge with others?
  5. Contribution to the Community and/or Country
    Does the solution contribute to the community and/or country?
  6. Cost Impact
    Cost involved is reasonable.
  7. Commercialization Potential
    • Set a new trend or potential for a new market
    • Increase interest in a new trend/ market

PAYMENT GUIDELINES

  1. The participant can download the acceptance letter via the system upon acceptance of the project..
  2. After that, the participants may proceed with payment via two (2) methods:
    1. UiTM FinePay
    2. b. Malaysian Government Local Order (LO) (Minimum value RM 1000.00)

METHOD 1: UiTM FinePay

    1. Download the acceptance letter that contains the UiTM FinePay payment link from the system http://innovation.i-idea.org/.
    2. Click the UiTM FinePay link and make payment.

      Kindly refer to the guidelines below for the smooth process of payment:

      1. Please indicate the Project ID in the Student/Staff/Participant ID and Designation sections (COMPULSORY).
      2. Please select “non-citizen” for the International (non-Malaysian) participant.

    3. The receipt will be auto generated after the payment process. Kindly save the UiTM FinePay receipt and upload it as the “Proof of Payment” into the system.
      (Reminder: Do not close the window before the completion of the payment process as it will cause the problem to obtain the receipt)

METHOD 2: Malaysian Government Local Order (LO)

    1. After getting the acceptance letter, the participant may proceed to prepare the documentation for LO.
    2. For participants from local government agencies/institutions, kindly liaise with your respected Bursary to prepare the documentation for LO.
    3. The participants are required to upload the “Proof of Payment” (a copy of LO) into the system.

Participation Withdrawal/Cancellation Policy

The payment made will not be refunded for any participation withdrawal/cancellation.

Other Information

  1. For the participant who requires an invoice to be issued to the company/institution, kindly email the Secretariat at inovasi2023@gmail.com (cc: nabilahakemal@uitm.edu.my) the full details (name of the company/institution, address, the name and email of the person-in-charge) for the preparation of invoice.
  2. In all circumstances, the on-site payment is not accepted.
